Plywood Boat Plans - The World Standard - Part 2

The other 2 frames that are longitudinal is used to cover the upper most portion of the hull. In addition to these , two more elements are used to help in bending the ribs, from the one point to another. The joint that forms, is known as the chine, whereas the frame member that is used in the installation is known as the chine log. In order to complete the framing of the boat hull, more longitudinal members are used. It is often seen, that these joints are either screwed tightly or are glued properly as it is very important for safety. It was earlier that only screws were available to make these joints stronger, but now special adhesives are used that are very powerful in fixation.

While applying the glue or the adhesive, care should be taken so as to ensure that no gap should remain in between. It is very important because in case any gap remains, then it can lead to serious problems afterwards.

Moving to the next step, now the planking made of plywood is used in the lean position as against the framework. It is required to cut the size of the wood extra, so that it can be nailed or trimmed properly with the frame’s edge. With this the big part of preparing the project is over. Now nothing more is required than just to use several fiberglass layers as well as epoxy in order to strengthen the whole structure.

There are several other Plywood Boat plans available, but all the techniques that are used are to some extent similar. The difference if any is mainly because of the material that is used and the way it is used.
